This Bozeman-area mountain retreat project flew by, but it was unforgettable because we had the whole crew: Jeff and all three of his boys pitching in together. There’s something deeply satisfying about hard work with family. Our mission was clear—build strong wildfire mitigation around the home and shop. Bordering National Forest, every cleared zone and thinned area helps give the client the best possible protection if fire ever approaches.
Much of this project involved clearing timber around structures such as this one.
This job was all about the details. Working in close proximity to the structures required a heavy amount of handwork from the guys.
Dakota headed down to work the next section.

Jeff and Dakota walking back up to haul more limbs down for the mulching pile.
Mastication is a quick way to eat up unwanted timber. For this project, we cleared the land using handwork and piled up the timber in the meadow to be masticated into mulch.
Our Skid steer with masticating head makes quick work of the downed trees.
When possible, we use the skid steer and masticating head to remove trees in place. Here the equipment is on the hill above the house clearing timber away from the house.
Once completed, not only did the client have a defensible space, but they also had the perfect country for wildlife to enjoy.
